Abstract

A new genus and a new species of ceratophyllid flea is described from Chihuahua, Mexico, taken in the nests of the thick-billed parrot, Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha (Swainson, 1827). Diagnostic features of the taxon are illustrated. Observations on the nesting habits, and the endangered status of the host are discussed and the status of our knowledge of the ceratophyllid bird fleas is summarized.
